˿Ƶ has again solidified its position as a premier institution for experiential learning and academic excellence in STEM disciplines. In the newly announced U.S. News & World Report 2025 Best Colleges rankings, ˿Ƶ is nationally recognized among the Top 20 in undergraduate engineering education and Co-op experiences and is No. 7 among Regional Universities in the Midwest. The University also earned this national recognition, reinforcing its legacy of delivering a top-tier educational experience.

U.S. News & World Report ranked ˿Ƶ No. 18 nationwide for Undergraduate Engineering Programs (non-doctorate). Kettering’s long-standing focus on hands-on, real-world experience through Co-op education was also highlighted, earning a No. 20 national ranking in the Co-ops/Internships category. This announcement follows on the heels of another prestigious ranking from The Wall Street Journal that placed ˿Ƶ among the Top 10 colleges in the nation for career preparation.

“Our recognition in US News & World Report affirms our unwavering commitment to excellence," remarked Dr. Robert K. McMahan, President of ˿Ƶ. "For over a century, we have been a leader in STEM education, blending our rigorous academic programs with a robust professional paid co-op program that equally emphasizes both academics and relevant practical experience. National acknowledgments such as these highlight the profound and lasting impact of our educational approach. We take immense pride in our legacy of producing successful and impactful graduates as we also continue to work to shape, inspire, and cultivate the leaders of tomorrow."

Since its founding in 1919, ˿Ƶ has brought hands-on STEM-focused learning to life through its blend of rigorous academics and paid Co-op employment. Unlike a traditional university, Kettering’s curriculum alternates every 11 weeks, all 4.5 years between a classroom environment and professional employment experience. Students spend one term mastering theories and skills in classrooms and labs and the next term applying them in a paid Co-op role with one of 400+ Co-op partners in the US and abroad. On average, Kettering students earn $60,000 to $75,000 throughout their time as undergraduates and graduate with 2.5 years of equivalent hands-on job experience.

“These rankings recognize the excellent outcomes produced by the unique ways we infuse applied, experiential educational opportunities for students across the entire curriculum,” said ˿Ƶ Provost Dr. James Zhang. “Our faculty challenges our students to pursue excellence, and our students are also immersed during their entire undergraduate career in meaningful, professional co-op experiences and research opportunities. This combination of deep learning and extraordinary practice leads to truly magnificent outcomes for our students, and these rankings reflect that fact.”

˿Ƶ Celebrates Multiple Prestigious National College Rankings, Including 10th in The Nation for Career Preparation From The Wall Street Journal /who-we-are/news-events/kettering-news/kettering-university-celebrates-multiple-prestigious-national-college-rankings-including-10th ˿Ƶ Celebrates Multiple Prestigious National College Rankings, Including 10th in The Nation for Career Preparation From The Wall Street Journal Rankings rnorris Wed, 09/11/2024 - 14:11

˿Ƶ proudly announces its outstanding achievements in national higher education rankings, underscoring its commitment to career preparation and academic excellence. The Wall Street Journal, College Pulse, and Statista have recognized Kettering as one of the top 10 schools in the nation for Career Preparation in their 2025 rankings. The University also earned an impressive 99 out of 100 points for graduates' starting salaries. When it comes to return on investment, Business Insider has ranked ˿Ƶ as one of the top in the nation as a Best Bang for Your Buck, and Smart Asset has scored Kettering as the No. 1 school in Michigan for graduates' starting salaries. The Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce also ranked ˿Ƶ as No. 33 out of 4,500 colleges and universities on return on investment.

The WSJ/College Pulse Best Colleges in the U.S. ranks undergraduate institutions by the value they offer students based on learning environment, years to pay off the net price, degree completion rates, the likelihood of higher salaries post-graduation, and diversity. The results are derived from official data from the U.S. Department of Education and the Census Bureau, along with a nationwide survey of undergraduate students and recent alumni.

“These accolades reflect the unwavering drive of our distinguished faculty, ambitious students, accomplished alumni, and the entire Kettering community,” said ˿Ƶ President Dr. Robert K. McMahan. “They highlight not only our commitment to excellence but also the exceptional outcomes achieved through our unique educational model. By combining rigorous academics with hands-on, experiential learning opportunities, we ensure our students are prepared to lead, innovate, and to create the future.”

Since its founding in 1919, ˿Ƶ has brought hands-on STEM-focused learning to life through its 50/50 blend of rigorous academics and paid Co-op employment. Unlike a traditional university, Kettering’s curriculum alternates every 11 weeks, all 4.5 years, between a classroom environment and professional employment experience. Students spend one term mastering theories and skills in classrooms and labs, then applying them in a paid Co-op role the next term, working on projects that add value to the company’s bottom line.

"Recognition on the national level is a great proof point of our unique and successful Co-op model, which gives our students a jump start on their career ahead of their peers with professional experience, or as we like to say, ‘real work’ before they graduate,” said Enza Sleva, ˿Ƶ’s Director of Co-op and Career Design. “This is how our students start ahead and stay there."

According to The Wall Street Journal writers Tom Corrigan and Kevin McAllister, “With faith in higher education continuing to slide… the investment in a college degree has come under increased scrutiny. As such, the WSJ/College Pulse ranking seeks to reward institutions that showcase demonstrable positive outcomes for their students and alumni… Schools with historically strong technical and engineering programs also did especially well in the ranking this year, in part because of strong industry demand for those skills.”

˿Ƶ's recent achievements extend beyond the Wall Street Journal rankings. ˿Ƶ has been featured in The Princeton Review’s The Best 390 Colleges for 2025. The Princeton Review is one of the nation’s leading education services companies, and its rankings are based on survey results from more than 168,000 students nationwide. The survey evaluated schools on various factors, from financial aid and career services to sustainability and quality of life.

Forbes' 2024-2025 Top Colleges list also places Kettering at No. 206 among the top 500 American colleges. Forbes also rated Kettering as the No. 31 college in the Midwest and No. 111 among all private colleges in the nation.

“Our rigorous programs are designed for driven students to push boundaries and inspire growth,” ˿Ƶ Provost Dr. James Zhang said. “I am very proud to see The Wall Street Journal, Princeton Review, and Forbes recognize Kettering as one of the top higher education institutions in the country. This recognition speaks to the University’s commitment to student success in the classroom, in the Co-op workplace, and in future careers.”

In the Princeton Review survey, Kettering students gave exceptionally high marks to the University’s Co-op program, saying the “awesome” experience is “unparalleled in preparing students.” One surveyed Kettering student emphasized the Co-op benefits, saying undergrads “get to make money during school while also getting experience and making industry connections.” Kettering students earn between $50,000 and $75,000, and sometimes significantly more, during their 2.5 years equivalent of Co-op experience.

Surveyed students also gave Kettering credit for its active fraternities and sororities. The University ranked seventh in the nation in The Princeton Review’s Lots of Greek Life category.

“Kettering is known for its unique 11-week terms that require students to focus on the work at hand. But that doesn't mean students must sacrifice the Greek Life experience of a traditional university,” said Myra Lumpkin, ˿Ƶ's Director of Student Life Programs. “Roughly 40% of the Kettering student body participates in fraternities and sororities. These organizations allow our students to demonstrate their leadership skills while giving back to the Flint and campus communities. Through Greek Life, our students learn to collaborate toward common goals and build relationships with one another that will last a lifetime."

˿Ƶ is no stranger to top rankings, appearing on numerous Best Colleges lists. These include The Princeton Review’s Best Value Colleges and Best Midwest lists and U.S. News and World Report’s Best Colleges.

“The colleges we profile in our book are truly a select group: They constitute about 15% of America’s four-year institutions. We chose them primarily based on our high opinion of their academic offerings,” said Rob Franek, Editor-in-Chief of The Princeton Review and author of The Best 390 Colleges. “The colleges that make our book’s ranking lists do so entirely as a result of the opinions of their customers — students attending the colleges — who complete our 89-question survey about their school.”

˿Ƶ Named a 2024 Best Value College by The Princeton Review /who-we-are/news-events/kettering-news/kettering-university-named-2024-best-value-college-princeton-review ˿Ƶ Named a 2024 Best Value College by The Princeton Review Rankings rnorris Thu, 08/15/2024 - 14:06

˿Ƶ is one of the nation's best colleges for students seeking a great education with excellent career preparation and fantastic return on investment, according to The Princeton Review. The education services company named ˿Ƶ as one of its Best Value Colleges for 2024 on June 20. The Princeton Review gave ˿Ƶ an ROI rating score of 89/99. In its profile of ˿Ƶ, the company’s editors praise the school for its renowned Co-operative education program. Through a 50/50 blend of rigorous academics and paid Co-op employment, students apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to real-world industry challenges in their first year.

˿Ƶ students surveyed by The Princeton Review described the school’s “awesome” Co-op program as “unparalleled in preparing students.” Beyond the benefits of the experience and being paid for their Co-op work, students speak strongly of the job placement rate. Kettering students graduate with more than two years of on-the-job experience and a median starting salary of $75,700 annually.

“Designations like these are a strong affirmation that Kettering’s unique experiential and Co-op-based education model creates amazing results in our graduates,” said Dr. Robert K. McMahan, ˿Ƶ President. “Kettering’s unique and proven model of mixing rigorous academics and undergraduate research opportunities with deep and meaningful professional experience produces students who hit the ground running after they graduate. The accomplishments of our alumni set a very high bar even when compared with the best institutions in the country.”

The Princeton Review chose 209 schools for the 2024 list based on data from its surveys of administrators at more than 650 colleges in 2023-24. Topics covered academics, cost, financial aid, graduation rates, and student debt. Overall, The Princeton Review crunched more than 40 data points to tally the colleges' ROI ratings that were the basis for the Best Value Colleges school selections.

"This recognition is a great proof point of our unique and successful Co-op model, which gives our students a jump start on their career ahead of their peers, ultimately culminating in 2.5 Years of professional experience, or as we like to say ‘real work’ by the time our students graduate,” said Enza Sleva, ˿Ƶ’s Director of Cooperative Education and Experiences. “This is how our students start ahead and stay there."

The Princeton Review also factored in data from its surveys of students attending the schools and data from PayScale.com’s surveys of alumni of the schools about their starting and mid-career salaries and job satisfaction. In 2023, Both PayScale.com and SmartAsset ranked ˿Ƶ as the #1 college in Michigan when it comes to starting salaries for graduates.

"The schools we chose as our Best Value Colleges for 2024 are a select group: they comprise only about 8% of the nation’s four-year undergraduate institutions,” said Rob Franek, Editor-in-Chief of The Princeton Review. “We commend their administrators, faculties, staff, and alumni for all they are doing to educate their students and guide them to success in their careers. These colleges are also exceptional for the generous amount of financial aid they award to students with need and/or for their comparatively low cost of attendance.”

The Princeton Review does not rank the Best Value Colleges hierarchically on a single list, from 1 to 209. ˿Ƶ proudly announces its impressive ranking as No. 8 on Vention’s list of Best Institutions in the United States for Employability in Artificial Intelligence (AI). Vention, a leading software development company, studied the latest graduate employment data from the U.S. Department of Education and considered factors such as job placement rates, median salaries, and career growth potential, among others, to determine the rankings.

The study evaluated 1,790 degree programs related to Computer Science, focusing on students’ employment status one year and four years after graduation. ˿Ƶ's Computer Science program emerged as a top performer, with graduates achieving a median salary of $91,590 four years after graduation.

“It is very exciting that we were ranked in the top 10 for the best-paying AI-related degrees,” said Dr. Michael Farmer, ˿Ƶ’s Computer Science Department Head. “This demonstrates strong performance that we believe will even be stronger in the future since this evaluation period covers the last four years — and our concentration in AI is only two years old! It is the fastest-growing concentration in the Computer Science major and continues to generate considerable excitement with the students and with our Co-op employers.”

Kettering's unique Co-op program is the only one of its kind in Vention’s top 10. By applying hands-on academics to paid, professional Co-op experiences, Kettering students gain 2.5 years of on-the-job experience upon graduation. This rigorous blend of education and employment equips students with the skills to find creative, practical solutions that can impact the most competitive industries, including  AI. Kettering graduates enter the job market beyond entry-level positions, commanding the highest starting salaries in Michigan, as evidenced by a multi-year standing at the top of SmartAsset’s list.

The Vention study highlighted that AI-related bachelor’s degrees with 100% employability lead to 56% higher salaries four years after graduation than other fields of study. This ranking makes ˿Ƶ's program a standout choice for students aspiring to a lucrative and stable career in AI.

"We were utterly astonished to discover so many universities, whether public or private, across so many different states, that produce clearly outstanding graduates,” said Mark Karasu, Chief Marketing Officer at Vention. “Our study aims to help AI enthusiasts make more informed choices when submitting their college applications."

˿Ƶ's dedication to excellence in education ensures that its graduates are highly employable and positioned to become leaders in artificial intelligence. Kettering Graduates Earn Highest Starting Salaries in the Michigan According to SmartAsset /who-we-are/news-events/kettering-news/kettering-graduates-earn-highest-starting-salaries-michigan-according-smartasset Kettering Graduates Earn Highest Starting Salaries in the Michigan According to SmartAsset Alumni Rankings rnorris Mon, 09/25/2023 - 13:20

When ˿Ƶ graduates enter the job market, they start with a median salary of $75,700—highest in the state of Michigan—according to 2023. Kettering grads make $4,600 more than their peers from Michigan Technological University, which ranks second with a $71,100 median starting salary for graduates.

“Employers recognize the incredible value a ˿Ƶ graduate brings to their organization,” said Enza Sleva, Director of Co-op Operations. “Our graduates have not only studied theories and methods but also gained firsthand experience and professional skills through our immersive Co-op program. Kettering students join the workforce with valuable professional experience and are ready to make an immediate impact and contribute to the success of their employers.”

This is the second consecutive year SmartAsset has determined Kettering graduates have the highest starting salaries in the state.

Kettering significantly improved its SmartAsset College Education Value Index, jumping to 70.46 from last year’s 59.96.

The financial benefits for students are felt throughout their time at Kettering, not just after graduating, SmartAsset determined. Kettering is one of the state’s top Best Value Colleges, landing at .

The University’s Co-op program contributes heavily to the overall value of a Kettering education and is among its most unique attributes dating back to its founding in 1919. Starting in their first year, students rotate between the classroom and paid, professional Co-op experiences at one of more than 400 partner organizations spanning Michigan and 21 other states. Students earn their degree, up to 2½ years of professional experience and earnings, from $45,000 to $70,000 over their time at Kettering.

To be considered a Best Value College, schools are evaluated on five categories: tuition, student living costs, scholarship and grant offerings, student retention rate, and starting salary for new graduates.

The SmartAsset recognition is just the latest for Kettering.

  • U.S. News & World Report this week included Kettering in its 2024 Best Colleges rankings at No. 6 among Most Innovative Schools – Regional Universities Midwest and No. 9 among Regional Universities Midwest.
  • Business Insider recognized Kettering as one of the top 31 universities and colleges providing students the best bang for their buck
  • Niche ranked Kettering at No. 3 for the in Michigan.

The annual SmartAsset rankings are based on the 2020 National Center for Educational Statistics, 2023 Payscale, The Institute for College Access & Success, College InSight, and Peterson’s Undergraduate Financial Aid and Undergraduate Database.

SmartAsset, an online destination for consumer-focused financial information and advice, compares schools based on various financial factors and data sets, including starting salary, tuition, living expenses, student retention rate and scholarships awarded.
